Has it come to a point, regarding the Homeless and Venice Beach, that the burgeoned transient population is too much of a threat to our overall health and prosperity as a community? To quote Dr. Spock, do “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one?” Or, within a community such as Venice Beach (with its history and long standing commitment to openness and freedom) - are the homeless (in their variegated diversity), some kind of strange plankton, that once scraped off, will disrupt the food chain and starve us from the bottom up?

Obviously, I am on the side of a compassionate solution for our homeless population and keeping Free Venice free. Having said that, I hover near the fence on this one. The homeless problem is getting out of control and, shoving them around from Ocean Front to 3rd Street to wherever, only makes their community more unstable and them more likely to have a negative interaction with the community.

Valid point. There is really no economic reason to tolerate the homeless as we do. It is a moral and social issue. They create a burden on our system. And, I do not think you can dismiss the validity of a world view that has genuine sincerity toward the greater good and does not include the homeless. It is going to be tough.

Thank you for your comment. I know I get fiery, but I do believe Councilman Rosendahl has a great dream for Venice. I think so many amazing things can happen. I just hope as many of us are part of the future of Venice as possible. I want to see us all involved in the conversation, even if I am a little indelicate and, of course, have dreams of my own for Venice like everyone. Thank you for your hard work on a monumental, but possible, task.
